Setup: basic switch (fixed address)

Good for a permanent setup where the addresses never change between shoots. Requires only a basic unmanaged switch — no special features needed.

Connect the phone's dedicated Ethernet adapter to any port on the switch.
On the phone or iPad: Settings → Ethernet → tap the adapter → Configure IP → Manual.
Enter IP Address 192.168.50.10, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Router 192.168.50.1.
Connect the camera to another port on the same switch.
On the camera: set IP mode to Manual, address 192.168.50.11, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0.
On the camera's FTP settings, set the destination server to 192.168.50.10, port 21, with the username and password from WireRelay's Camera Login screen, and Passive Mode on.

Setup: travel router (automatic address)

More plug-and-play — the router assigns addresses automatically, so there's no manual IP entry on either device.

Connect the phone's dedicated Ethernet adapter to a LAN port on the travel router.
On the phone or iPad: Settings → Ethernet → tap the adapter → Configure IP → Automatic (usually already the default).
Connect the camera to another LAN port on the same router.
On the camera: set IP mode to Auto/DHCP, not Manual.
Check WireRelay's main screen for the address the router assigned this phone — it can change between sessions.
On the camera's FTP settings, set the destination server to that address, port 21, with the username and password from WireRelay's Camera Login screen, and Passive Mode on.

Do I need a subscription?

No. WireRelay is a one-time $24.99 purchase after a 7-day free trial. No recurring charges.

What hardware do I need?

A USB-C to Ethernet adapter for your phone or iPad, and either a basic switch or a travel router to connect it to your camera. A USB-C powered switch or router is convenient since it can run off a portable battery pack alongside your phone.

Does WireRelay work with any camera?

Your camera needs to support wired FTP transfer over its own Ethernet or USB port. WireRelay has been tested against Canon EOS bodies with wired FTP support; other cameras that implement standard FTP over a wired connection should work the same way, since WireRelay speaks standard FTP rather than anything camera-specific.

My camera shows "disconnected" right after connecting. What's wrong?

This is almost always an address mismatch between the camera's FTP settings and what's actually configured on the phone. Double-check every value — IP address, subnet mask, port, username, and password — matches exactly on both sides, and confirm Passive Mode is on. The setup guides above (and the in-app version) list every value that needs to match.

Does this work on iPad?

Yes — WireRelay is a universal app. The same wired setup works identically on iPhone and iPad.

Where are my received photos stored?

In the app's own Documents/Received folder on your device. You can browse them directly through the Files app, or use the Storage Info screen inside WireRelay.
