WireRelay Mac is free to download. Click Start Free Trial in the app and everything works for 7 days. After that, the server won't turn on until you pay $19.99 once to unlock the app. Your photos, folder and settings stay. If the server is on when the trial ends, it keeps running until you turn it off.
Already paid, on a new Mac or after reinstalling? Click Restore Purchases and sign in with the same Apple Account. If the App Store can't confirm your purchase, for example with no internet, the app keeps working for up to 14 days.
You'll need a USB-C Ethernet adapter and an Ethernet cable. A simple unmanaged switch between them is fine too. These are the suggested addresses; the app's Setup Guide shows the values to use.
FTP: port 21, with Passive Mode on.
SFTP: port 2222. Turn SFTP on in the app first. The app shows its host key fingerprint, in case your camera shows one to compare.
Use Allowed devices to limit which addresses can connect. An address can be imitated, so that list is a limit and not a guarantee.
Open Diagnostics in the app and send the photo again. If nothing new appears, the camera isn't reaching the app: check its address and port, the cable or network, and the macOS permission below. “Failed login” means the username or password in the camera is wrong. “Not on the allowed list” means you need to add the camera's address to Allowed devices.
Check the macOS permission. If WireRelay Mac was given Don't Allow, the camera can't connect in either mode. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and turn on WireRelay Mac.
Correct the password in the camera, then click Unblock in the main window or wait 5 minutes.
The network decides, and the app can't override it. Many venue and guest networks stop devices from talking to each other, firewalls can block these ports, and a camera on a separate network can't reach your Mac. Use Direct Cable when you can, or bring your own simple router or switch. A DHCP reservation from the network's administrator keeps your Mac's address from changing.
FTP isn't encrypted. On a shared network, someone else could read the password and see photos as they're sent. SFTP encrypts both, so prefer it on any network you don't control.
Your camera needs to send by FTP or SFTP. WireRelay Mac has been tested with the Canon EOS R5 Mark II. Other cameras may work, but we haven't tested them.
WireRelay Mac asks macOS not to go to sleep from inactivity while the server is on. Closing the lid can still put your Mac to sleep, so keep it open.
The partial file is removed, so it never appears in your folder. Send the photo again. If the first copy had fully arrived, the new one gets a number instead of replacing it.
No. Photos are saved to the folder you choose on your Mac, and nothing is sent to the internet.
